Animation With a Purpose

Animation With a Purpose

Gaining and retaining attention are key to an effective website, and you can achieve both through movement. That’s where the power of motion in design, or animation, comes through. Modern animations vary in complexity, timing and purpose - but there should always be a purpose.

Pros of Animation in Web Design

Showcase Unique Features Use website animations to showcase your product in unique ways, show special features, and share your brand. Enhance Design Bring your design to life and leave an impression. Boost Engagement and Conversion Humans are drawn to movement. Use motion to grab attention and guide users’ eyes.

Cons of Animation in Web Design

Too Much Can Distract Make sure you’re not drawing attention away from your copy and CTAs. Maintain site usability and don’t overstimulate the user. Slow Loading Speeds Poorly done animation can slow loading times. This annoys users, increases bounce rates and hurts SERP rankings. Aim to keep loading speeds at or below 2 seconds.

Should You Use Website Animations?

Consider these questions: • What is its purpose? • Does it guide users in the right   direction? • Does it benefit users or our   message? • Will it distract or hurt usability? • Can we use it without hurting    load speeds? • Can we do it well?
